Michael James Owen is a former England footballer who played as a striker for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Stoke City, as well as for the England national team. Since retiring from football in 2013, he has become a breeder and horse owner and regularly becomes a commentator and sports expert. Son of former footballer Terry Owen, Owen was born in Chester and started his playing career for Liverpool in 1996. He played for the Liverpool youth team and scored in his debut in May this year. In his first season in the Premier League, he ended up as top scorer with 18 goals. He repeated that the following year and was Liverpool's top scorer from 1997 to 2004, crediting himself as a proven goal scorer despite a relapse of a hamstring injury.
