Michaëlle Jean is a Canadian politician and former journalist, President of Canada from 2005 to 2010, the 27th since Canada. She was the first black Canadian and Haitian to hold this position. Jean was the third secretary general of the Fondation Internationale de la Francophonie from 2015 to 2019. She was the first woman to hold the position and to hold it until the end of 2018. Jean is a refugee from Haiti - arrived in Canada in 1968 - and grew up in the city of Thetford Mines, Quebec. After earning a university degree, Jean worked as a reporter and presenter for Radio-Canada and Société Radio-Canada, as well as for charities, mainly in the area of ​​assistance to victims of domestic violence.
