Verónica Michelle Bachelet Jeria is a Chilean politician who has served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights since 2018. Before that, she was also the President of Chile from 2006 to 2010 and from 2014 to 2018 for the Chilean Socialist Party, she was the first woman to hold the presidency of Chile. After resigning as president in 2010 and failing to immediately qualify for re-election, she was appointed as the first executive director of the new United Nations Organization on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment. . In December 2013, Bachelet was re-elected with more than 62% of the vote, exceeding the 54% she had in 2006. She was the first Chilean president to be re-elected since 1932.
