Yasiin Bey is a rapper, actor, and political activist who goes by the moniker Dante Smith. He is one half of the Black Star trio, along with Talib Kweli, and has starred in a number of films and television shows, including Dexter, Be Kind Rewind, and The Italian Job.

Yasiin Bey, better known as Mos Def, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter and actor. Best known for his music, Bey began his hip hop career in 1994, alongside his siblings in the pop-up rap group Urban Thermo Dynamics, after which he appeared on albums by Da Bush Babees and De La Soul. He then formed the duo Black Star, with rapper Talib Kweli in Brooklyn, and they released their debut album of the same name in 1998. He was on the Rawkus Records list and in 1999 made his solo debut Black on Both. Sides. His beginnings were The New Danger, True Magic and The Ecstatic. About.com editors listed him as the 14th greatest rapper on their "50 Greatest MCs of Our Time" list. Some of Mos Def's best hits include “Oh No”, “Definition”, and “Breathing”. Before entering the music business, Mos Def entered public life as a child actor with roles in dramas, sitcoms, and theater.
