About Nana Akufo-Addo

After serving the Abuakwa and Akim Abuakwa South constituencies in the Ghanaian Parliament, this New Patriotic Party politician became Attorney General of Ghana and, later, Ghanaian Minister of Foreign Affairs. On January 7, 2017, he was elected President of Ghana.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is a Ghanaian politician who is currently President of the Republic of Ghana. He has been in office since January 7, 2017. Akufo-Addo was former Minister of Justice from 2001 to 2003 and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2003 to 2007 under the government led by Kufuor. He is currently serving a second term as President of the Economic Community of West African Nations. Akufo-Addo first ran for president in 2008 and again in 2012, both times as candidates for the New Patriotic Party. He lost both times to Democratic Congressional candidates: John Evans Atta Mills in 2008 and John Dramani Mahama in 2012. After the 2012 general election, he refused to give in and went to court to oppose the results of the elections, but the Supreme Court of Ghana upheld the victory of John Dramani Mahama.
