Natalie Anne Coughlin Hall is an American competitive swimmer and has won 12 Olympic medals. While studying at the University of California at Berkeley, she became the first woman to swim 100 meters back in less than a minute - ten days before her 20th birthday in 2002. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, she became the first American athlete at the modern Olympics. history, won six medals in a single Olympic and was the first woman to win a gold in the 100-meter backstroke in two Inter Games. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she won a bronze medal in the free 4 × 100 meter relay event. In total, her 12 Olympic medals link up with Jenny Thompson and Dara Torres to win the most medals of all time by a swimmer. Coughlin's success earned her one time to win the Swimmer of the Year award and win the American Swimmer of the Year award three times.
