Neptune is the eighth most known solar planet from the Sun. In the solar system, it is the fourth largest planet in diameter, the third heaviest and the most dense giant. It has a mass 17 times that of Earth, slightly larger than its close twin Uranus. Neptune is denser and physically smaller than Uranus due to its greater mass causing more gravity to its atmosphere. The planets orbit the Sun every 164.8 years with an average distance of 30.1 AU. It is named after the Roman god of the sea and bears the astronomical symbol ♆, a stylized version of Neptune's trident. Neptune is invisible to the naked eye and is the only planet in the solar system to be found by mathematical prediction rather than experimental observation. The sudden changes in Uranus's orbit led Alexis Bouvard to deduce that its orbit was disturbed by an unknown planet that disturbed gravity.
