Patrick Galen Dempsey is an American actor and motorcyclist best known for his role as neurosurgeon Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd in Grey's Anatomy. He had early success as an actor, starring in a number of films in the 1980s, including Can, Buy Me Love and Loverboy. During the 1990s, he mainly appeared with smaller roles in movies, such as Outbreak and TV. Dempsey is also on Scream 3, where he plays the detective Mark Kincaid. He won a lead role in Sweet Home Alabama, an unexpected box office success. He has starred in other films including Brother Bear 2, Enchanted, Made of Honor, Valentine's Day, Flypaper, Freedom Writers, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Bridget Jones's Baby. Dempsey, who maintains a collection of sports cars and classic cars, also enjoys racing in his spare time. He has competed in professional events such as 24-hour Le Mans, Rolex 24 at Daytona Sports Car Race and Ensenada SCORE Baja 1000 off-road
