Páll Óskar Hjálmtýsson, known internationally as Páll Óskar and Paul Oscar, is an Icelandic pop singer, songwriter and record player. He had a musical childhood, singing in private organizations, with choirs and media advertisements, but was touched by bullying at school and tensions between his parents at home. He was openly gay with his family when he was 16. Paul Oscar's music line includes traditional Icelandic songs, ballads, love songs, disco, house and techno. He released his first album, Stuð, in 1993 in New York City, and also sang with Icelandic bands Milljónamæringarnir and Casino while establishing a career as a solo artist. His ballad album, Palli, was the best-selling Icelandic album in 1995. Paul Oscar caught world attention when he performed "Minn hinsti in", the Icelandic song to attend the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest. His last album was Silfursafnið.
