Pavel Nedvěd is a retired Czech footballer who used to play in the midfield. Described as one of the best players of his generation, he is also considered one of the Czech Republic's most successful players, winning national and European awards alongside Italian clubs, Lazio, including the champions and Juventus, with whom he led to the 2003 UEFA Champions League final. Nedvěd was a key member of the Czech squad to reach the Euro 1996 final, where he drew the international attention. He was also captain of the national team at UEFA Euro 2004, where they were beaten in the semi-finals by final champions Greece and Nedvěd was named to the tournament squad. In addition, Nedvěd helped his team qualify for the FIFA World Cup for the first time since Czechoslovakia split up.
