Pedro Pablo Kuczynski Godard, also known simply as PPK, is a Peruvian economist, politician and public director who served as President of Peru from 2016 to 2018. He was previously Prime Minister of Peru from 2005 to 2006. His government has ended abruptly on March 23. 2018, following his speech to the nation two days earlier, announcing his resignation as president. Since April 10, 2019, he had been in pre-trial detention, due to an ongoing investigation into corruption, money laundering and his links with Odebrecht, a state-owned company accused of having denounced remorse. Kuczynski was born in the Miraflores district of Lima to a German Jewish father and a Franco-Swiss mother. Kuczynski's parents fled Germany after the Nazis came to power. Kuczynski worked in the United States before entering Peruvian politics. He held positions at the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund before being appointed Managing Director of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru.
