José "Pepe" Mel Pérez is a former Spanish footballer who played as a striker, and is currently the coach of UD Las Palmas. He amassed a total of 215 matches and 78 goals for the Segunda División in eight seasons, for Real Madrid Castilla, Castellón and Betis. He also played in La Liga with the last club. In 1999 Mel became manager, before taking over a number of teams, mainly Rayo Vallecano and Betis, leading the team to the secondary championship in 2011 and 2015.
