Petros "Pete" Sampras is an American former professional tennis player. His professional career began in 1988 and ended at the 2002 US Open, which he won by beating rival Andre Agassi in the final; he is the only man of the open era to have won the last Grand Slam he ever entered. Sampras won 14 single Grand Slam titles during his career, which was the Open Era record at the time he retired: seven Wimbledon awards, two Australian Open and one Era Five Open joint record. US Open title. He has won a total of 64 singles titles. Britain first hit world number one in 1993, and held that position for a total of 286 weeks, including an open-period record of six consecutive year-end No. 1 rankings from 1993 to 1998.
