Philip Glass is an American composer and pianist. He is considered by many to be one of the most influential composers of the late 20th century. Glass's work is linked to minimalism, constructed from repetitive phrases and layers of displacement. Glass describes himself as a composer of "music with repetitive structures", which he helped develop in terms of style. Glass founded Philip Glass Ensemble, where he still plays the keyboard. He has written many operas and musicals, 12 symphonies, 11 symphonies, 8 string quartets and many other chamber music and films. His three film points were nominated for an Oscar.
