She was elected as Jamaica's first female Prime Minister in 2006 and re-elected in 2012. She has also served as Minister of Defense and Minister of Development, Information, and Sports for her country.
Portia Lucretia Simpson-Miller is a Jamaican politician. She was Prime Minister of Jamaica from March 2006 to September 2007 and again from January 5, 2012 to March 3, 2016. She was leader of the National People's Party from 2005 to 2017. and lead the opposition twice, from 2007 to 2012 and from 2016 to 2017. During his tenure as Prime Minister, Simpson-Miller retained the posts of Minister of Defense, Development, Information and Sport. She has also been Minister of Labor, Social Security and Sports, Minister of Tourism and Sports and Minister of Local Government throughout her political career. After her second electoral victory in December 2011, when her party defeated the Jamaican Labor Party, she became the second person since independence to have served non-consecutive terms as Prime Minister, the first. The first is Michael Manley.
