About Queen Sonja of Norway

She is best known as the wife of King Harald V of Norway and as the Queen consort of Norway, a title she assumed in January 1991 after the death of King Olav V. In 52 years, she became Norway's first Queen consort.

Queen Sonja of Norway before fame

She attended the École Professionnelle des Jeunes Filles in Switzerland, where she studied accounting, social science, and fashion design. She went on to the University of Oslo to get her bachelor's degree in French, English, and art history.

Achievement of Queen Sonja of Norway

For her contributions to the Olympic movement, she was awarded the prestigious Golden Olympic Order in 1994. She served in the Royal Norwegian Navy as a Rear Admiral.
