Civil rights activist and former Africana studies instructor who served as the Chair of the Police Ombudsman Commission and the President of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in Spokane, Washington. She was fired from all three roles after allegations that she lied about her race were made public.
Rachel Anne Dolezal, also known as Nkechi Amare Diallo, is a former American university lecturer and activist known for her status as a self-proclaimed black woman. She is also the former president of the national association for the advancement of people of color. Dolezal was president of the NAACP chapter in Spokane, Wash. From 2014 until June 2015, when she resigned amid controversy over her racial identity. She came under public scrutiny when her parents were white to openly believe she was black. Statements from Dolezal's parents after Dolezal reported to police and local media that she was a victim of hate crimes involving race; however, a subsequent police investigation failed to prove his allegations. Dolezal also identified himself as mixed race on an app and said an African-American man was his father.
