Bhanurekha Ganesan, known by her stage name Rekha, is an Indian actress who has appeared primarily in Hindi-language films. Recognized as one of the best actresses in Indian cinema, she has appeared in over 180 films and received several awards, including a National Film Award and three awards. She often plays powerful and complex female characters - from fiction to literature - in mainstream and independent films. Although her career went through some stages of decline, Rekha gained a reputation for recreating herself several times and being recognized for her ability to maintain her status. In 2010, the Indian government honored Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian title. The daughter of two actors Pushpavalli and Gemini Ganesan, Rekha began her career as a child actress in the Telugu films Inti Guttu and Rangula Ratnam.
