Rita Frances Dove is an American poet and essayist. From 1993 to 1995, she was a poet poetry consultant for the Library of Congress. She is the first African American to be appointed since the post was created by Congress in 1986 from a former post of “poetry advisor”. Dove also received a nomination as "Special Poetry Consultant" for Bicentennial of the Library of Congress from 1999 to 2000. Dove was the second African American to receive the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, in year 2000. 1987, and she is the Virginia poet award winner. 2004 - 2006. From 1989, she taught at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, where she served as the Commonwealth of English Professor of English.
