Director, producer, and actor best remembered for his roles as Andy Griffith's son Opie on The Andy Griffith Show and as Richie Cunningham on Happy Days. Howard won the Academy Award for Best Director for his film A Beautiful Mind, which won Best Picture and Best Director in 2001. He also directed Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Apollo 13.
Ronald William Howard is an American director, producer and actor. Howard was first known as a child actor, starring in a number of television series, including an episode of The Twilight Zone. He gained national attention when he played the role of a young Opie Taylor, the son of Sheriff Andy Taylor in the sitcom The Andy Griffith Show from 1960 to 1968. During this time he also appeared in the musical film The Music Man, a critic and commercial success. He was credited as Ronny Howard in his film and television appearances from 1959 to 1973. Howard played one of the lead roles in the upcoming American film Graffiti and became a household name when he played Richie Cunningham on the sitcom Happy Days, a role he would play from 1974 to 1980. In 1980 Howard left. Happy Days focuses on directing, producing and occasionally writing various films and dramas.
