Ronald Lawrence Kovic is an anti-war activist, writer, former naval sergeant who was injured and paralyzed during the Vietnam War. His 1976 hit memoir Born July 4 was made into a 1989 Oscar-winning film directed by Oliver Stone. Kovic received the Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay on January 20, 1990, 22 years after he was injured in Vietnam, and was nominated for an Oscar in the same category.
