Roseanne Cherrie Barr is an actress, comedian, writer, producer and presidential candidate. Barr began his career in independent comedy before being critically acclaimed in the televised sitcom Roseanne. She won an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her work in the series. Barr became a monologue comedian in 1980. In the late 80's and early 90's, she became famous for her roles in Roseanne and other performances. Barr caused controversy during a performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" during a baseball game that was broadcast nationwide on July 25, 1990. After singing the national anthem of what many consider to be Deliberately disrespectful, Barr grabs his groin and spits. The performance was condemned by baseball fans and sports writers, and called "shameful" by then-President George H. W. Shrubs. Barr has been active and outspoken on political issues.
