Defenseman who was named captain of the New York Rangers in October 2014 after helping lead the team to the Stanley Cup Finals the previous season. He also represented the United States at the 2007 World U18 Championships, winning a silver medal.
Ryan Patrick McDonagh is an American professional ice hockey defenseman and alternate captain for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League. Drafted in the first round, 12th overall, by the Montreal Canadiens in 2007, he played college hockey for the Badgers at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He also played for the New York Rangers, for whom he served as team captain from October 2014 until being traded to the Lightning in 2018. McDonagh won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Lightning in 2020. McDonagh also competes internationally for the United States and was a member of the men's ice hockey team at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
