He was selected fifth overall in Draft NHL 2011 by New York Islanders and started playing for the team in their 2013-14 season. Strome previously played at Major Junior level as a member of the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League before being transferred to the Niagara IceDogs in his first season at this tournament. He is the brother of Chicago striker Blackhawks Dylan Strome and prospect of Philadelphia Flyers Matthew Strome.
