Saku Antero Koivu is a former professional Finnish ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League. He began his NHL career with the Montreal Canadiens in 1995-96 after three seasons with the Finnish SM-liiga TPS. Koivu has led the Canadian team for 10 years during his 14 years with the club, making him the longest captain in the club's history, tied to Jean Béliveau. Koivu is the first European player to wear the Montreal Canadianiens captaincy.
