Samuel "Sammie" Henson is a world champion wrestler, winning a free gold medal for the United States at the 1998 FILA World Wrestling Championship, held in Tehran, Iran. He defeated Azerbaijan's Namig Abdullayev to win the gold medal. He was also the silver medalist at the 2000 Summer Olympics in a free 54 kg, losing to Abdullayev in the final of that event, held in Sydney, NSW, Australia. At the age of 36, he competed at the 2006 FILA World Wrestling Championship in Guangzhou, China, winning a bronze medal. He was named Wrestling Man of the Year in the United States in 1998. Previously he was the head coach at West Virginia University. He is also the head coach of Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club. Henson was born in St. Joseph. Louis, Missouri.
