Sara Gómez or Sarita Gómez is a Cuban filmmaker. As a member of ICAIC during her early years, she was one of only two black filmmakers to attend. She was the first and in her life a female director, only in Cuba. Gómez is known for his first and last feature film De Cierta Manera. Gómez was a revolutionary filmmaker, interested in portraying the Afro-Cuban community, women's issues and the treatment of disadvantaged segments of society. Sara Gómez's cinematic process identifies issues with colonialism, particularly the experience of former marginalized communities who were unaware of the possibility of a bright future. "Exposing the roots of the world which had to be left behind and which demands the emergence of the future: its mission is to enable these communities to deal with what is happening in their lives. Their needs and their possible departures."
