Sebastian Newbold Coe, Baron Coe, more commonly known as Seb Coe or Lord Coe, is a British politician and former track and field athlete. As a mid-range runner, Coe won four Olympic medals, including one at 1,500 meters at the 1980 and 1984 Olympics. He set nine outdoor world records and three indoor world records in mid-range events - including, in 1979, three world records in 41 days - and the world record he set at 800 meters in 1981 remained unbroken until 1997. Coe's rivalry with Britons Steve Ovett and Steve Cram dominated midrange racing for most years. 1980. After retiring from athletics, Coe served as a member of the Conservative Party parliament from 1992 to 1997 for Falmouth in Cornwall, and became Life Peer on May 16, 2000. England led the success in London to host the 2012 Summer Olympics and become chair of the London Olympic Games Organizing Committee.
