Ballet dancer known for his work with the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre as well as the Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre. Outside of Russia, he has also performed with the Royal Ballet of the United Kingdom.
Sergei Vladimirovich Polunin is a dancer, actor and model of Ukrainian origin. He has Ukrainian, Russian and Serbian nationality, but "still considers himself Russian". Born in Kherson, SSR Ukraine, Polunin started gymnastics before moving to ballet at the age of 8 and attended the Kiev State Choreographer Academy. After graduating, he joined the Royal British Ballet School at the age of 13 in 2003. Polunin has received numerous awards, including the 2006 Prix de Lausanne and Grand Prix Youth America, and 2007 was named as Young British dancer of the year. In 2010, at the age of 19, Polunin became the youngest lead dancer of the Royal Ballet. After two years, he left ballet to pursue a career as an independent.
