He played Wikus van der Merwe in the Oscar-nominated sci-fi movie District 9, Howling Mad Murdock in the 2010 adaptation of The A-Team, Agent CM Kruger in the sci-fi movie Elysium, James Corrigan in the sci-fi thriller Europa Report and King Stefan in the dark sci-fi adventure Maleficent. He also starred in the sci-fi movie Chappie, played Jimmy in Hardcore Henry, and starred for two seasons as Christian Walker in the TV series Powers. Sharlto is married to South African actress and model Tanit Phoenix.
