Frank Shepard Fairey is a contemporary American street artist, graphic designer, activist, illustrator and founder of OBEY Clothing with a skate background. He was first known for his “Andre the Giant Has a Posse” sticker campaign while attending Rhode Island School of Design. He rose to prominence during the 2008 US presidential election for a Barack Obama “Hope” poster. The Boston Institute of Contemporary Art described him as one of the most famous and influential street artists. His works are in the collections of the Smithsonian, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the New York City Museum of Modern Art, the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, the properties of the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
