David Shepard Smith Jr. is an American broadcasting reporter for NBC News and CNBC, where he serves as host and co-host of The News with Shepard Smith, a daily evening newspaper that comes out in the fall of 2020. Smith is mostly known for his 23-year career with Fox News Channel, where he joined when it was founded in 1996 and where he serves as director and news editor. Smith hosted several shows during his tenure at Fox News, including Fox Report, Studio B and Shepard Smith Reporting. In 2017, Smith went publicly gay, prompting a backlash from a number of audiences. He left the station in 2019. In a 2021 interview with Christiane Amanpour, Smith said his presence on Fox had become "unacceptable" due to "lies" and "lies".
