She was a founding member of the British / Irish girl group Bananarama in the 1980s, which had a number of hits in the top 10 including the number one "Venus" in the United States. She went on to found the Brit Award and the Ivor Novello award-winning musical, Shakespears Sister. in 2018, a tour of North America and Europe.
