Skye, or Isle of Skye, is the largest and most northern of the major islands in Scotland's Inner Hebrides. The island's peninsula radiates from a mountainous center dominated by Cuillins, whose rocky slopes offer some of the most spectacular mountain views in the country. Although it is thought that Gaelic Sgitheanach describes a winged form, there is no clear consensus as to the origin of the name.
