Shelton Jackson "Spike" Lee is an American director, producer, screenwriter, actor and teacher. His production company, 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks, has produced more than 35 films since 1983. He made his debut with She's Gotta Have It. Since then he has written and directed films such as Do the Right Thing, Mo 'Better Blues, Jungle Fever, Malcolm X, Crooklyn, Clockers, 25 Hour, Inside Man, Chi-Raq, BlacKkKlansman and Da 5. Bloods. Lee also starred in ten of his films. Lee's work has continually explored race relations, the colorism of the black community, the role of media in contemporary life, urban crime and poverty, and key issues. He has won numerous awards for his work, including the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, the Student Academy Award, the BAFTA Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, two Emmy Awards, two Peabody Awards and the Cannes Grand Prix.
