English actor, screenwriter and producer who earned eight Primetime Emmy nominations for his contributions to the popular NBC sitcom The Office. Life's Too Short and Hello Ladies are two of his other television writing credits, the latter of which he also starred in. In the 2017 film Logan, he played the character Caliban.

Stephen James Merchant is an English actor, comedian, writer, director and presenter. Along with Ricky Gervais, he is co-writer and co-director of the British comedy series The Office and co-writer, co-director and co-director of Extras and Life's Too Short. With Gervais and Karl Pilkington, he hosted The Ricky Gervais Show in radio, podcast, audiobook and television formats; The Radio Edition won the Sony Bronze Award. He also voiced the Wheatley robot in the 2011 Portal 2 video game. The businessman co-developed the travel series Sky1 An Idiot Abroad and co-created Lip Sync Battle. Merchant also performed as an independent comedian, which led him to write and star in HBO's Hello Ladies series, based on his stand-up documentary. He starred in his first play, Richard Bean's The Mentalists, at the Wyndham Theater in London in 2015. He also appeared as mutant Caliban in the superhero movie Logan.
