Stephen Todd Alford is an American men's basketball coach and former professional footballer and Nevada Wolf Pack head coach of the Mountain West Conference. Born and raised in Indiana, he twice accepted to the Toan America first team as a college basketball player for Indiana Hoosiers. He led them to the National Championship in 1987. After playing professionally for four years with the National Basketball Association, he was the head coach of the university for almost 30 years. Alford was named Indiana M. Basketball in high school before playing at Indiana University under the guidance of coach Bobby Knight. He helped the Hoosiers win a fifth national championship and ended his career as Indiana's all-time top scorer. Alford was selected to the second round of the 1987 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks and has played four years in the league against Dallas and Golden State Warriors. Alford then went on to become the university's head coach.
