Takashi Murakami is a Japanese contemporary artist. He works in art media as well as commercial media and is known to blur the lines between upper and lower arts. He coined the term "superflat", which describes both the aesthetic features of the Japanese artistic tradition and the nature of postwar Japanese culture and society, and is also used for its artistic style. Murakami and other Japanese artists he influenced. Murakami is the founder and president of Kaikai Kiki Co., Ltd., through which he manages a number of young artists. He is the founder and organizer of the Geisai art fair every 6 months.
