Former frontwoman of the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, who left the band to pursue a solo career after being sacked.
Tarja Soile Susanna Turunen-Cabuli, known professionally as Tarja Turunen or simply Tarja, is a Finnish heavy metal singer and songwriter. It is a soprano with octaves of octaves. Turunen studied singing at the Sibelius Academy and the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. She is a professional classical liar singer and former lead singer of the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, which she founded with Tuomas Holopainen and Emppu Vuorinen in 1996. Their combination of the hard and fast guitar piece with the dramatic lead vocals of Turunen's "opera" quickly gained critical popularity and commerce. Their style of symphonic metal, soon dubbed “opera metal,” inspired many other metal groups and performers. Turunen was fired from the group on October 21, 2005 for personal reasons. She started her solo career in 2006 with the release of a Christmas album titled Henkäys ikuisuudesta.
