Smith has appeared in films such as The Whole Ten Yards, Daddy's Little Girls, The Longshots, Couples Retreat, and Jumping the Broom. She played the role of Angela Williams in Tyler Perry's films Why Did I Get Married ?, its sequel Why Did I Get Married Too? And on the TV series based on the movie For better or for worse. In 2015, she began starring in a recurring role as Carol Holloway in the musical TV series Fox Empire. Finally that year, Smith debuted the director.
