After graduating in 1977, she worked at the Bank of England and the Clearing Services Association. She was also a consultant for Durnsford in Merton. After two unsuccessful attempts to be elected to the House of Representatives, she was elected congressman from the Maidenhead in 1997. From 1999 to 2010, May played a number of roles in ball cabinets. She was also President of the Conservative Party from 2002 to 2003 .
