Thomas Roland Tillis is an American politician who has served as a Junior United States Senator from North Carolina since 2015. As a Republican, he was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives in 2006 and as President in 2011. He was elected to the US Senate in 2014, defeated the outgoing Kay Hagan Democratic Party and was re-elected in 2020, defeating Democratic candidate Cal Cunningham. As speaker of the House of Representatives, Tillis spearheaded Republican efforts to stop the expansion of Medicaid and put in place abortion restrictions, strict voting conditions, and constitutional amendments. homosexual is prohibited.
