Originally from Durham, North Carolina, Warren played college basketball as a small striker for NC State Wolfpack at the Atlantic Coast Conference. During the 2013-14 season, he earned the title of team-mate Toan America and was named ACC's Player of the Year after leading the conference on scoring ability with an average of 24.9 points per game. . Warren was selected in the first round of the 2014 NBA Draft with the 14th pick overall by Phoenix Suns. He spent 5 seasons with Suns before moving to the Pacers in 2019
