English actor who played The Doctor on Doctor Who for the fourth time. Later, in the miniseries The Hounds of Baskerville, he played Sherlock Holmes.

Thomas Stewart Baker, known by his stage name Tom Baker, is an English actor and writer. He is best known for his fourth incarnation of Doctor in the science fiction television series Doctor Who from 1974 to 1981, a longer tenure than any other actor in the lead role. He has also been featured in the television comedy series Little Britain and Little Britain USA. His voice, described as “very good”, was voted the UK's fourth most recognizable in 2006. At the age of 15, Baker began studying as a devout brother. He gradually lost his vocation, giving up religious life at the age of 21 to accomplish national service in the royal armed forces. After leaving the military, he served in the Merchant Navy and later became an actor, joining the Royal National Theater under Laurence Olivier.
