Sir Thomas Hicks, known professionally as Tommy Steele, is an English artist, considered Britain's first teenage idol and rock and roll star. He reached number one with "Singing the Blues" in 1957, and The Tale of Tommy Steele was the first British band's album to hit number one in their home country. Steele's films include Half a Sixpence, The Happhest Millionaire and Finian's Rainbow and he has toured widely in the UK. He is also a musician, author and sculptor. In 2012, Steele was one of the cultural icons chosen by pop artist Sir Peter Blake to appear in "Vintage Blake," a film montage to celebrate Blake's 80th birthday.
