Tony Tan Keng Yam is a politician from Singapore, is the seventh President of Singapore, serving 6 years from September 1, 2011 to August 31, 2017 after winning the Singapore presidential election. 2011 as a candidate. Tan announced that he would not participate in the 2017 presidential election on November 8, 2016, the election of Malaysian candidates following the constitutional amendment on November 9, 2016. He is the only former president living in Singapore. A former member of the ruling People's Action Party, Tan was the 5th Deputy Premier from August 1, 1995 until September 1, 2005, when former Deputy Premier Li Hien Long resigned. Tan was Deputy Prime Minister with S. Jayakumar. Tan was chairman of the People's Action Party from September 1, 1993 to December 3, 2004 after Ong Teng Cheong retired from that post.
