François-Marie Arouet, better known by the pseudonym Voltaire, is a French Enlightenment writer, historian and philosopher known for its witty, critical of Christianity - especially the La Catholic Church. He is a strong advocate of civil liberties, and he always faces the risk of the strict censorship laws of the French Catholic monarchy. His wartime trials were gradually exhausted by intolerance, sarcastic dogma, and the French institutions of his time.
