William Robert Young is a British singer-songwriter, songwriter and actor from Wokingham, UK who rose to fame after winning the first round of ITV's 2002 Pop Idol talent search competition, helping to become the first winner of the Idol series in the world. Her first double-sided single "Anything Is Possible" / "Evergreen" was released two weeks after the series finale and became the UK's top-selling debut single. Young also placed fifth in World Idol performing the single "Light My Fire" written by the group The Doors. As a teenager, Young studied politics at the University of Exeter before moving to London, where he studied musical theater at the School of Art Education. Young dropped out of school at the end of 2001 to become a Pop Idol contestant. After winning the competition the following year, he released his debut album From Now On, which went straight to number one.
