Central midfielder who joined Real Madrid in 2009 after playing for the Spanish national team since 2003. In 2003, he was voted Spanish Player of the Year, and in 2010, he led Spain to a World Cup victory.

Xabier "Xabi" Alonso Olano is a Spanish football coach and former professional footballer who played in central midfield or defense. He was the coach of the Segunda División B Real Sociedad B. Alonso club started his career with Real Sociedad, the main football team in his hometown province of Gipuzkoa. After a brief loan spell at Eibar, he was appointed captain of Real Sociedad by then-manager John Toshack. He succeeded in this role, bringing the club to second place in the 2002–03 season. He moved to Liverpool in August 2004 for £ 10.5 million and won the UEFA Champions League in his first season, under Rafael Benítez, scoring the equalizer in the final against Milan. The following season, he won the FA Cup and FA Community Shield. He moved to Real Madrid at the start of the 2009-10 season in a deal worth about £ 30 million.
