Farid Yu Darvishsefat, commonly known as Yu Darvish, is a professional Japanese baseball pitcher who started for the San Diego Padres Major League Baseball team. Darvish has also played in MLB for the Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs and in Nippon Professional Baseball for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters. While playing at the international level, Darvish competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2009 World Baseball Tournament as a member of the Japanese national team. He was considered by many to be the best pitcher in the Japanese professional baseball industry before he made it to the Major in 2012. In his first season in MLB, Darvish finished third in the American Federation's Rookie of the Year poll. The following season, he finished second in the AL Cy Young Awards election as he led the main tournament in excellence with 277 and finished fourth in the AL with an average of 2.83.
